Updates regarding the progress of my projects.
1/17/07 More free advertising? Yes, please! Happy 2007, everyone! Hope all's well with you and yours. Just wanted to give you an update or two. First, a big "thank you" to Jennifer Garner (no, not that Jennifer Garner), my classmate from high school, for being one of my book's personal cheerleaders. She told me about a friend of hers that works at Westword, a local newspaper. This friend was working on an article about fiction books that are set in Denver or mention Denver locales. Jennifer thought of the reference to the Brown Palace Hotel that I made in TMtS and suggested I submit the quote. Well, my book made it into the on-line article! Click here for the link. Once there, click on #5, where you'll see my quote. Thanks again, Jennifer! In other news, I've submitted my book to a company that specializes in Book-to-Film transitions, with the goal of converting my book into a screenplay! I'll let you know what happens with that. The book contest I mentioned a few entries back: yeah, I didn't win. Oh, well. Next time! I've sold (roughly) 60 copies of TMtS, so far and had gotten nothing but positive feedback! Thanks, everyone! 8/23/06 Those Made to Suffer now available at a bookstore near you! ...if you live in the Denver-metro area, that is. I have signed a consignment agreement that will allow me to sell TMtS out of the biggest, most-respected bookstore west of the Mississippi, the Tattered Cover! The agreement lasts from 8-21-06 until 11-21-06. So, for three months, I bring in copies of my book and they put them on their shelves to sell. I'm finally in a bookstore (and, not by accident...Mike A. knows about that...)! This is big news! My only hope now is that it flies off the aforementioned shelves! If you live in the Denver area and have yet to get a copy of TMtS, get thee to the Tattered Cover (LoDo) and purchase it there. Already have a copy? TMtS makes a great gift for the avid reader (read: loner...just kidding!) in your family. Either way, the quicker Tattered Cover sees copies of TMtS getting snatched up, the better! This is a very small foot in a very big door. Thank you all for your continued support and enthusiasm! *A special "thank you" to Tina McMichael for dropping the books off at the store for me! Much appreciated, Tina! 8/4/06 What's up? Just thought I'd let you all know how Those Made to Suffer (TMtS) has been doing and other news. As of June 30th, TMtS has sold 28 copies! Not too shabby, considering my only marketing ploys are word-of-mouth, my website, my MySpace site, and a copy of my book on display at a Le Peep's restaurant in Littleton (and, yes, I've sold books through each of these methods, so far). I'm hopeful that a book contest I've entered will result in a win, thereby expanding my marketability. Still waiting for the Tattered Cover bookstore to let me know if they'll sell it there. That would be a big push, too. In the meantime, it's been great to hear all the positive feedback! The reviews are glowing and I'm humbled by your kind words. Have a look for yourself! Keep spreading the word, people! In other news... My second book is coming along nicely. I'm through 12 chapters as of today. While I'm hesitant to let you know the title or the plot as yet, I will let you know it is not a sequel to TMtS. That will be down the road a ways. However, I may post the first chapter in the coming weeks, if I'm comfortable enough to do so. Take care, and thanks again for your continued support and enthusiasm! 3/8/06 Those Made to Suffer published! My author's rep at Outskirts Press e-mailed me yesterday to inform me that my book has been published! If the publication date had been 15 days from today (3-23-06), it would've been exactly 8 years to the day that I started this book! Wow! Thanks to everyone who's supported me throughout this journey. Now, a new journey begins...hearing back from all of you! Click on the Buy Now tab above to purchase the book, read it and (hopefully) enjoy it, write me an e-mail to tell me what you thought of it, and then, most important of all, tell your friends and family to read it, too! Here's to good reading, my friends! 1/24/06 Author's proofs ready! Outskirts Press has forwarded the author's proofs for Those Made to Suffer to me. The book looks A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!!!! I am not the least bit ashamed to say I got a little bleary-eyed! The proofs are available for my review on-line. I double-check everything one last time, then send any corrections to my author's rep. After that, any corrections that need to be made are made, it's put to my review one last time, and then the P-word...publication! It should, theoretically, take me about a week to double-check everything. I'll keep you all informed. As always, thank you all for your continued support! 12/22/05 Those Made to Suffer to be published! I'll be going the self-publishing route in order to get my book published. After some research, I decided to use Outskirts Press, based here in Parker, Colorado, as my publisher. The great thing about Outskirts is that I am in charge of every conceivable aspect of the publishing process. Following publication, Outskirts sends my book to Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble.com, and Ingram Distribution, which sends it to bookstores. It's print-on-demand, which means I don't have to store thousands of copies in my garage or basement, waiting for distributors to pick me up. This is a huge foot in the door. There's no word in the dictionary to describe the excitement I'm feeling! Thanks to all of you for your support during this long, 8-year-long process. My dream is finally coming to fruition! |
